A new bike

Kylie got her first big girl bike today. Mimi happened to spot one on sale and thought Kylie would enjoy it, and she does! Kylie has wanted a bike for a while now but we had not found one that we could get for her until Mimi found this one. It is a 16 inch model which at first Mommy thought was to big, but it turns out that it is just right. It looks very similar to the one in the below picture and Kylie is already very good at riding it. This was an excellent late birthday gift that we are sure Kylie is going to have lots of fun with over the summer.

A second date

Mommy got a phone call from Uncle Jason today that went something like this:

Uncle Jason:  “What are you doing today?”
Mommy: “Well I am getting ready to go to work, why?”
Uncle Jason: “Well…what is Kylie doing?”
Mommy: “She is getting ready to go over to Aunt Darla’s so they can watch her.”
Uncle Jason: “Would it be ok if I watched her? I have a surprise for her.”
Mommy: “Sure.”
Uncle Jason: “Great! I now live like a mile from the Zoo and I bought a season pass that allows me to bring one person in with me so that I could take Kylie when ever she wanted to go and I was hoping to take her today.”

This makes the second surprise date that Uncle Jason has taken Kylie on and she loved it! They had a blast at the zoo, in fact Uncle Jason’s Facebook status update after the date read as follows:

Jason Berthiaume: Going to the zoo is fun, but watching how happy it made Kylie put a big smile on my face!

How awesome is that?

Playing with the band

Tonight Kylie, Melissa and I went down into Ypsilanti to listen to the music again, as we have been doing each Friday night. Tonight the music was outside again and Kylie seemed to enjoy this much more than last week when the music was inside Club Devine due to weather. Tonight we stayed through all the way to then end (just about 10:30pm) and Kylie had a blast dancing in front of the stage. After a few songs the lead singer of the band Just Jill gave Kylie her tambourine to play! It “was so awesome” according to Kylie, and Daddy thought it was pretty sweet too. I took a few pictures with my phone and a quick video too. The pictures will be added into the gallery as soon as possible, and hopefully someday the video will make it up as well.

Begining Ballet

Tonight was Kylie’s first ballet class and I was very happy that I was able to get out of work on time to go and watch her. She did a wonderful job and seems to really enjoy it. There are a total of five girls in her class and they all seemed to get along right away. They started right in on learning the positins and practicing them. The instructor is very friendly and the children listen to him follow his lead very well. I attempted to record the class on my phone and thought the video seemed to take just fine, when i got home it turns out the video is corrupt and so i don’t have any footage. i am very upset about this, but unfortunetly there is nothing I can do. Hopefully I will be able to attend more of her classes, and if I do I will attempt to get another video.

Happy Father’s Day!

This afternoon Melissa and I went down to Tiffany’s house to celebrate a number of things; Kylie’s Birthday, Father’s Day, and Aunt Sissy’s Birthday. We didn’t do anything big or have a lot of people over (mainly because no one has any money and we didn’t want to put anyone, or our selves, in any more financial hardships) and I think it was actually better this way. We all had a nice dinner and then went across the street to hit some baseballs and softballs around. Kylie did a great job hitting the balls that were pitched to her, and I also found out today that she can throw a frisbee very well! Daddy got hit by a couple of line drive balls (I was pitching) that I am sure are going to leave some nice bruises. One was from a ball that Mommy hit that hit my foot so hard you could actually see the laces from the ball on my foot. I guess that is what I get for being barefoot. After we played for a while we all went in and had a piece of a very yummy ice cream cake that Mimi made. Uncle Chris and Aunt Melissa showed up for this and then had to leave shortly after. It was a very nice day and everyone seemed to have a lot of fun.

You’re Four Already?!?!

Happy 4th Birthday Kylie!

Four years ago today you brought a whole new level of love in to our lives. The love of a parent for their child. This love has no bounds, no restrictions and has no limits. Just as the joy and happiness you bring to Mommy and Daddy everyday has no end. Watching you grow, learn and explore is fascinating beyond words. Everyday with you is a new experience and another blessing.

Here are just a couple of highlights from this past year in reverse chronological order:

We are so very proud of you and love you so very much! We can’t wait to see what you learn and accomplish this year!

Our little Ballerina

2009-06-04_1707For a while now Kylie has said she wanted to join ballet, and today she finally got her wish. We needed to wait until she was old enough to join a class, find a class she could join, and find a way to fund it. All of those things came together today. Mommy found a class down river that she could join and Mimi said she would finance it. So that is what they did today. Kylie, Mommy and Mimi all went and got Kylie signed up for ballet; registered for the class, and purchased all the necessary garments. Kylie is super excited, and looks ready to dance! Her first class is going to be on June 23rd and I am hoping to be able to make it to see some of her classes.

They are going to be weekly at 4:30, but the problem is that they are an hour away from me, so even if I can get out of work early, I may not be able to make it down to the classes. I will try very hard to make it to at least one though, as i really want to be able to see her dance.

“Inconceivable”

Growing up, and indeed to this very day, one of my favorite movies of all time is The Princess Bride. Sometime in the last few weeks I introduced Kylie to this movie, and lately, after coming home from school, she has been asking to watch it. This in itself has made Daddy very happy, and I have been more than willing to comply and put it in the DVD player. In fact, it is playing, and she is sitting watching it, as I type this. So what’s the big deal then? Why has Kylie sitting watching a movie prompted me to write a post? Because she is quoting it as she is watching it! While this is no where near the first movie she has done this with, it is the first time she has done it with one of Daddy’s favorite movies! Needless to say Daddy is very happy and proud of her for this. I love being able to share the things that I enjoy with my daughter! I hope we get to share many things as she grows and have many happy memories!

Oh how the time flies

Today, being my first day back home in almost a week, was also the first time I got to see Kylie. I had gotten her a few new shirts from my trips and had also brought her home a few gifts from Nana. Kylie liked them very much and wanted to call Nana so she could thank here. When she first called Nana she wasn’t home, so Kylie left a message on Nana’s answering machine. Luckily enough Nan got home in time to call Kylie back before she went to bed and Kylie was more than happy to talk with Nana and thank her for her new outfit and her new nightlight that Nana made (this one in the form of a Wishing Well with an on/off switch, as the Lighthouse one she previously made and Kylie had been using at Daddy’s house, did not have a switch) During the conversation Kylie said “Nana, you’re my best Nana ever.” This made Nana so happy that it brought tears to her eyes. When Kylie was all done talking with Nan she thanked her again for the new outfit and night light, told Nana “I love you whole bunches forever” and said good-bye.  It was at this time that we were all a little shocked to realize that Kylie had just had a 25 minute phone conversation with her Nana!

Kylie’s first time camping

Last night Kylie had her first camping experience. Her, Mommy and Mimi spent the night camping in a tent in the backyard. Mommy said they all had a great time, and here is the recap of the events from Mommy:

Last night Kylie helped us put the tent up; she was holding the poles for us as we slid them into the slots and making sure the tent was being opened fully. After we set the tent up, we had to let it air out, so we went inside to get our things ready. Kylie helped gather up her blanket and pillow and she was able to take 2 stuffed animals out with her and she decided to chose 2 dogs. She then helped me use the vacuum to inflate the air mattress. I also brought down her mattress so there would be enough room for Kylie, Mimi and I. We took them all out to the tent where Kylie kept saying “This is going to be awesome!” I asked her what else we should bring with us, and she said “books and popcorn,” so that is what we got. We also made some Kool-Aid and brought out the book “Going on a Bear Hunt” and had popcorn. We also brought out a flashlight to help us read the book and to find our way back to the house at night if we needed to. Kylie was in charge of the flashlight which she thought was cool. After we ate the popcorn, drank our juice, and read our book, we used the flashlight to get us inside to use the bathroom. Kylie kept saying, “I’m not scared.” She thought it was cool that it was so dark out (about 9:30 now). We looked at the stars when we came back out, and made a wish on one, saying “star light, star bright” and Kylie thought that was really cool too. After that we went back into the tent to go to sleep, and Kylie fell asleep pretty quickly. I think it was because she was so excited. In the morning, she was happy because we saw that there was a mommy bird feeding her babies in a nest on Mimi’s balcony. Since there was something new, the tent became old news and the birds became the focus of the morning. After discussing the birds for a little while it was time to pack up camp, Kylie helped us take down the tent and said to me “Mommy, I can’t wait to be in the tent again. It was SOOOO cooooooool!”

It sounds like Kylie had a very fun time on her first camping experience. Hopefully she will be able to have many more throughout the years and that will help help her develop a lfe long love of the outdoors.
