Tonight Kylie, Melissa and I all went to Meijer to buy a few things. On the way out Kylie asked if she could ride on the horse at the front of the store, seeing as we actually had a penny on us we were more than happy to let here have a few seconds of fun. Being a father has taught me that making your child happy is one of the simplest ways to make yourself happy. Share in my happiness and view the video here.

Strep Again
We took Kylie to the doctor again today… Yesterday Tiffany noticed that Kylie’s eyes were getting glassy, which is one of the ways we can tell when Kylie is starting to not feel well, and then last night Mimi noticed that Kylie was running a fever and that her throat was red again. So off we went to the doctor’s office today, and as it turns out Kylie has strep throat again, this makes the second time in a month and a half that she has come down with it. When the doctor checked her temperature in the office it was 100.4, everything else, however, was good. She weighed in today at 43.5 pounds which is up 1.5 pounds from here last office visit last month. The doctor prescribed her some amoxicillin, so hopefully she will be feeling better in a few days.
Holiday Portraits
Today we went to Sears and had Kylie’s holiday portraits taken. As usual they came out terrific and Kylie did a great job! The pictures are up in the gallery and can be found here. I love that I can get the pictures instantaneously on CD with the copyrights from Sears, so even though we wont have the physical prints for 2 weeks; we already have all the shots from the session. Aren’t digital pictures the greatest?
Kylie’s Sick
Tiffany decided to take Kylie to the doctor today because she didn’t look right this morning and has had a fever off and on for a day now. When I met them up at the doctor’s office Kylie, as usual, appeared to be just fine. She was happy and playing and jumping around, but I knew she wasn’t feeling well by her eyes. When Kylie doesn’t feel well here eyes lose there shine and appear to get kind of dull and glazed. This is the main thing that made Tiffany think Kylie wasn’t well and needed to go to the doctor in the first place. Once Kylie was called in they checked her weight (42 pounds) and took her temperature (99.9) and then we waited for the nurse practitioner. When she came in and saw Kylie she asked us what was wrong and Tiffany said “I think Kylie has Strep.” The nurse was shocked and said “This Kylie? You think she has Strep?” After checking Kylie’s ears (which thankfully were clean) she checked Kylie’s throat and said that it was in fact very red, she told us she would need to take a throat swab but was considering having someone else come do it because Kylie was so sweet and happy that she didn’t want to b the one to upset her. We told her that she didn’t have to worry about it because Kylie would do the swab with out issue because she was good with all that type of stuff. So the nurse finally decided she would do it and when she was done Kylie said “That wasn’t bad at all” which made us all laugh. After a few minutes the nurse came back and said “I wouldn’t believe this if I didn’t see the test results myself, but Kylie has Strep.” Tiffany just smirked because she knew Kylie had it to begin with. We started her medication tonight and hopefully in a few days she will be feeling much better.
C is for cookie
Tonight Kylie and Melissa made some Pillsbury spooky cat sugar cookies. Melissa was at
the store the other day and saw them and thought it would be fun for her and Kylie to do something together, so tonight they made them. Kylie had a blast laying the cookies on the cookie sheet and spending some time in the kitchen. We don’t do much baking of any kind here so this was also the first time we used the Calphalon cookie sheet I bought like three years ago. I find that amusing. The cookies were very yummy and Kylie was very proud and happy that she got to help. I even remembered to snap the above picture of the cookies before we ate them all (there was 24 in the pack). Hopefully this is something we will do more of over the cooler months, perhaps we could even make some from scratch?
Jungle Java Time
Kylie and I went to Jungle Java today so that Kylie could get some good play time in even though it is getting cold out. Although Kylie had been there before with Mommy, it was Daddy’s first time going and I have to say I was very impressed with the place. Jungle Java is basically a giant indoor playground with plenty of room for the parents to sit and read a book or drink coffee or just relax and watch the kids play. Parents can even climb through and play in the jungle if they want. I brought a book to sit and do some reading and watch Kylie play with all the other kids. We had eaten before we went there so we didn’t buy anything from the little cafe they had there, but perhaps next time we might go for lunch and for play time. I was a little surprised when I looked at the time and realized we had been there for 4 hours but Kylie had a blast and the time went by really quick. There was a continuous flux of kids there for her to play with (there were a few birthday parties going on) and at one point one of her classmates (Jeremiah) even showed up, so Kylie constantly had kids to play with. This alone is a big bonus over just going to the park because sometimes there are other kids there for her to play with and sometimes there are none; and she clearly enjoys herself more when there are other children to play with. It cost $6.50 for Kylie to play there (parents are free) with no limit on the amount of time she plays, and after 4 hours that comes out to $1.63 an hour. Let’s see, she is playing inside like she could play outside at the park if the weather were warmer, in a safe warm environment with other children to play with, which also has the availability of food, drink, and bathrooms; yeah I think that is worth the price. I am sure that we will try to go there again over the coming cold months, as it will sure beat staying at home and watching TV all the time; or the other limited indoor activities that we can do. Maybe next time I’ll even climb around the Jungle.
Four Year Checkup
Kylie had her four year check up today, and she passed with flying colors! She weighed in at 44lbs and measuring 44 3/4 inches (3 feet 8 and 3/4 inches) tall, they even took her blood pressure this time (which I don’t remember them doing before) and that was 90/50, which we were told was very good. Seeing as this might be her last checkup prior to enrolling in school next year (holy cow that came up fast!) she had to get two shots today, with a plan on getting two more next year. Mommy had to leave the appointment early (read: before the shots) to go to work and was a little worried at how Kylie would take them, especially without her there. I am very proud to say that she took them without so much as batting an eye. She sat in Daddy’s lap with her arms crossed and took one in each arm. After the second one she looked at the nurse and said “That wasn’t bad” with a big smile on her face. Daddy was a little shocked and immensely proud of her, hopefully this is a sign that she will have Daddy’s pain tolerance. In addition to this she had her first eye exam, which I have to admit Daddy was a little nervous about, mainly because of how poor my vision is, but she also passed that without a problem. Hopefully she will continue to have good eyesight and good overall health.
Renaissance Festival
Today Kylie, Melissa, and I all went out to Holly MI to go to the Renaissance Festival that is held there annually. It was Kylie and mines second time going (though Kylie doesn’t remember her first time because she was only 2 months old) and Melissa’s first time, so we were all looking forward to going. Once we got there Kylie started looking around and commenting on all the people in different outfits and shops. She especially like the two people walking around in a giant knight and a giant horse costume. She was even more excited when she got to give them each a high five. Melissa and I really enjoyed looking around at all the shops, even though we couldn’t buy anything. We all enjoyed the jousting tournament and Kylie really enjoyed cheering for “our Blue Knight.” Melissa and I each took a good number of pictures, and hopefully I will get them added to the gallery sooner than later. We are all looking forward to going back next year as well.
Chopsticks Are Easy
I just received a text message from Tiffany saying Kylie can use chopsticks better than she can and Tiffany didn’t teach her. I too have never taught Kylie how to use chopsticks, my theory is that she taught herself how to use them by watching others use them. Tonight they are dining at BD’s Mongolian Barbecue to celebrate Aunt Sissy’s graduation from college (Congratulations to Aunt Sissy!) and I suspect that she has been watching others use them tonight and simply picked up on the way to use them. In any event this is pretty fantastic and I love that she picks up on how to perform actions so quickly.
Last Ballet Class
Today was Kylie’s last ballet class and because I am on vacation this week, i was able to make it down to see her last class. Her and her classmates performed a 1 minute 30 second routine for all the parents that where there to show what that had learned and accomplished during the past eight weeks. I was able to take a successful video of this routine and I hope to get it up on the site soon. Tiffany has signed Kylie up for the next ballet session because Kylie has really enjoyed the past eight weeks and has asked to continue. At the end of this next session there will be an actual recital with costumes at a local school. I can’t wait to see how she does!
