Today was a very busy and long day for us. This morning Kylie had soccer, and once again the girls seemed to have a lot of fun. Watching Kylie and Delaney play on the same team is great, and watching them look for each other to try and make plays was awesome. After soccer we had a few hour break to get ready for Kylie’s ballet recital. She totally rocked it! We aren’t allowed to take pictures during the recital, but a few from after it was over can be seen here. After the recital was over we once again went down to Stroh’s to have some ice cream and celebrate. It was a long, but wonderful day.
Special Person’s Day
Today was special person’s day at Kylie’s school, this is a day where each student gets to invite a person to come in to school to spend the afternoon with, and Kylie choose me! So I got to go to her school today and spend the afternoon out in the yard with her where we read books to each other (I read Harry the Dirty Dog and she read Hop on Pop) and have ice pops. Thankfully the weather was very nice, a beautiful not too hot sun shiny day. We sat on a blanket that I had brought with me just for the occasion and took turns reading our books and talking. It was really nice to see all the people who came to be with the children in Kylie’s class, and I was very happy that she choose me! Afterwards I waited around for a few minutes until it was time to take Kylie home from school, and then i took her back to Mimi and Mommy’s house because she spending this weekend with Mommy because of all the things that are going on (soccer, ballet recital, and BBQ for the troops). Kylie is going to have a very full weekend indeed.
Strep Throat, Sweet!
We took Kylie to her regular pediatrician today because last night she began to complain that her throat was hurting, and when Mommy locked in her throat it did appear that her tonsils were larger than before. Additionally Kylie now has a 100 degree temperature and absolutely no appetite. When the doctors office performed the rapid strep test it finally came back positive. It sounds odd to say it, but Mommy and I were very happy that Kylie has strep because this means we can finally get some type of medication that may help her feel better and reduce the size of her tonsils. Tiffany and I both laughed when we realized that it was probably strange for parents to be this happy that their child has strep throat.
Surgery is Scheduled
Tiffany called the ENT Doctor’s office today to schedule Kylie’s tonsillectomy, as of now we are scheduled to have the surgery performed some time on Friday June 24,2011. We will not find out the exact time until sometime the day before when the hospital calls us to give us the time. We have had Kylie placed on the waiting list in case something comes up sooner though, because her tonsils are still very large and at this point we feel it would be best to have them out as soon as possible. That being said though, if we can make it to the June 24 date, then Kylie wont have to miss any school due to the surgery. We have also decided not to tell Kylie until closer to her surgery date for a couple of reasons: 1) We don’t want her to spend the time between now and then worrying about the surgery, especially as she has already expressed some hesitance and worry about the idea of going to the hospital and having them out. 2) We don’t want to spend the time in between now and then having her ask repeatedly if this was the week of her surgery and how long until the day of her surgery, because when she is anxious about an event she does tend to ask about it a lot. At this point we (Mommy and Daddy) feel a little better just knowing that it is scheduled and that Kylie will soon finally have some relief.
E.R. Room Visit
We took Kylie to ER tonight because her tonsils are very, very large, large to the point that they are almost touching her uvula, and we are concerned about them swelling so much that they close her throat. In true Kylie fashion, she has not been complaining of any type of pain or discomfort. however, Mommy has noticed that she has a very decreased appetite and has no desire to eat anything “rough or hard.” When we got to the ER they performed all the normal checks and Kylie weighed in at 24kg (54.9lbs) and now stands at 117cm (3.8 feet) tall with a blood pressure of 104/62. The ER doctor (whose name I missed) said she was not worried about her tonsils swelling because “they can swell closed, but she can still breath through her nose.” Additionally the rapid strep test came back negative so what ever is making her tonsils swell is most likely viral and there is nothing that they can give her to help reduce the swelling and make eating better for her. This information, and seeing just how large her tonsils are (JUST LOOK AT THOSE THINGS!!!) has made Daddy decide it is time to take out the tonsils and not wait for the next bout of strep!
Back in Michigan
The flight home today was nice and uneventful, just the way I like my flights. As soon as we landed and I was able to disembark I made a beeline straight to my truck so I could go see Kylie. Having not been able to spend the entire weekend last week with her due to my flight leaving on Sunday, and not seeing her this weekend due to being in Texas, I was really looking forward to going to see her for a little while tonight. I gave her a few small things I picked up for her while I was in Texas and then we went and had a nice dinner at Red Robin.
NCDA Boot Camp, Day 6
I just passed NS163 and now officially have my NCDA! It will take a couple of weeks for them to ship out my certificate but the system has been updated with my passing score so I am officially certified. Not just me though, everyone in the class passed both exams, so there are now 8 new NCDA’s in the field. Congratulations to all the other guys and to Jon Presti for being a great instructor and making sure we all had the knowledge needed to pass the exams and get certified. Now to figure out what to do with the rest of my day, because my flight doesn’t leave until tomorrow. Had I known we would be done by 2pm today, I would have scheduled for an early evening flight. Oh well, looks like I get to go explore Las Colinas a little.
Five Years
Five Years have gone so fast,
But you are not our past.
We love you now, just as then;
We will see you once again.
NCDA Boot Camp, Day 3
Had the first of two exams today, NS153, and I am happy to say that I passed! I am now half way to my NCDA. After the exam we began covering the material that will be on Saturday’s NS163 exam. After class I was talking with Jon and found out that he wasn’t going to be having dinner tonight because he was short on cash (due to forgetting to process a lot of expense reports, oops.) and so I told him he should come over to my hotel which is literally next door to his because we have free dinner in the lobby. We had some good conversation at dinner about the class, the material, and NetApp in general. Apparently this is the first time Jon has hung out with any of his students outside of class as well, which I thought was odd because he is by far one of the most straight forward, down to earth, and straight up cool techs I have ever met. Well, time to study some more!
NCDA Boot Camp, Day 2
So my first test is tomorrow and in preparation we filled out the necessary forms for Prometric, and as soon as I got my form I had to laugh. According to the paper Prometric still thinks they are a Thomson company. I then had to explain to the class why I was laughing: 1) Thomson doesn’t exist anymore, we are now Thomson Reuters, and 2) when we were Thomson, we sold Prometric in 2007. Jon said he was going to send an email to his contact to see about getting updated forms. 🙂 The second day of the class went smooth and as I predicted some of the conversations have been very interesting. Also like I predicted Jon is really awesome, he knows the material very well and has no problem admitting if he dosen’t have the answer to a question, but he gets the answer typically while we are doing the labs either by doing some quick research or calling one of his contacts. I can see Jon being a great contact through out my career.
