“Mommy, my boobs aren’t growing.”

Today Tiffany got a a little surprise in the form of a question from a curious and very perceptive three year old. Here is the story and comments she sent to me:

This morning Kylie was with me in the bathroom while I was getting ready for the day. I had just put on some deodorant and Kylie said she wanted deodorant just like me. Kylie hadn’t put her shirt on yet, so I said ok, but only to put on a little. After Kylie had put some on she wanted to go look in the mirror in my room. She looked for a few minutes and when she came back she said, “Mommy, my boobs aren’t growing.” I was in shock for a few minutes, not having expected this from her at all. When I eventually got over the initial shock of her statement I said, “Why do you need boobs?” and she said, “Cause that’s what girls have.” While this is very perceptive and shows a certain level of understanding I wasn’t really sure how to respond as I was still slightly surprised. So I said “Well, sweetie, you’re just a little girl, so you only have little boobs. When you turn 12 you will get some.” To which her reply was, “OK.”

Holy cow!! I didn’t think I would be having that kind of conversation with Kylie for a few more years yet. At least she is still at that literal stage, and just wanted to know since she noticed that that is what girls have. At least it’s not the sex talk yet.

Wow! I sure am glad that Mommy got to handle that question. With any luck, she will be with Mommy when the sex talk comes up too! 🙂

Children’s Art Showcase

Yesterday I had the opportunity to go view Kylie’s art gallery exhibit at school. Each year the children of the Children’s Institute supply art for the Children’s Art Showcase. Each child has at least one piece of art that they created, and most of the rooms (maybe all, I am not certain) have a piece that all the children of that room helped to create. This is actually the first showcase that I was able to make it to, and it was very nice. All of the artwork was very interesting and unique, and I am very happy that all of the children have the opportunity to express themselves in this fashion. I only took a few pictures, but they can be found here. I did, of course, make certain to get pictures of the piece of art that Kylie created, which I think is beautiful and expressive. She seems to enjoy doing art work and expressing herself artistically, through painting or dancing or even playing music. I look forward to encouraging these activities as much as I can as she grows.

Toledo Zoo Trip

Today Kylie and Mommy went to the Toledo Zoo with Grandma Jen, Aunt Courtney, and Grandma Joan (Grandma Jen’s mom). Kylie really loved the fish. They seemed to keep her attention the most. She said, “That is just AWESOME!! Now that’s what I’m talking about.” However she was also very interested in the giraffes, the hippo, and really liked the polar bear. She kept saying over and over again “He’s HUGE!!” She liked sitting for pictures with the statues and really liked the gift shop, but that may be because Grandma bought her all kinds of things. She got a hat, a shirt, a deck of animal cards, a giraffe figure (“just like you grandma”), a little purse that had a little elephant inside. Kylie had so much fun that she fell asleep in the car on the way home. It was a very exciting and fun day, and hopefully we will be able to go back again.

Kylie’s First Date

A while ago Uncle Jason realized he had not seen Kylie for some time, so he asked if she would like to go on a date with him sometime, she of course said yes. Well today was the day they finally got to go out and spend some time together. Uncle Jason came by, wearing his best suit and holding a dozen Red Roses for Kylie, to pick her up for their date. Kylie was very excited to see him and ran to open the door for him when he pulled up. They went to Red Lobster, which Kylie called the Red Crab where they had a lovely dinner! Kylie had popcorn shrimp and fries, which she ate all of, and then her and Uncle Jason shared a yummy dessert consisting of a chocolate cookie and ice cream. Kylie even ate more of it than Uncle Jason did! After dinner they went back home where Uncle Jason stayed and played with Kylie and her dolls for a while. After a time Uncle Jason had to leave, on account of it was almost Kylie’s bed time. He gave her a kiss and said “Thanks for going on a date with me.” to which Kylie replied “You’re welcome. Uncle Jason, when are we going again?” Mommy and Aunt Sissy said it was the most adorable thing ever, and it even made Mommy cry a little.

Daddy, I like your new face

I was getting ready to shave today when Kylie came in and asked me what I was doing. So I proceeded to explain to her that I was going to shave and what that meant. Seeing as I had grown out my beard for about a month I was happy she was going to be here to see me shave so she wouldn’t be to shocked the next time she saw me, mainly because I have heard stories of kids crying after their fathers had shaved due to not recognizing them. I admit it wasn’t a huge concern as she was used to seeing me with less facial hair then what I had pre-shave anyway. During our conversation she said simply “Your not going to shave this are you?” and reached out to scratch my beard, or more specifically my chin. She has always like scratching my chin hair ever since she was very little, and I think it gives her a sense of comfort. Even though I had no intention of shaving this I said to her “Do you not want me too?” Of course she said “No” so i told her that I wouldn’t, for her. The a thought occurred to me and I said “Kylie, what should I shave?” She thought for a moment and started pointing to areas I should shave, resulting in me shaving everything but my chin. When I was all done she looked at me and said “Daddy, I like your new face.” It was incredibly cute, and I actually think I look a little younger now. I think I like the new look and will keep it this way for a while.

Kylie and Daddy

Daddy, this is the best surprise ever!

Last week, when Kylie first saw her new wagon she was very excited, exclaiming “A Wagon! WOW!” Today we got to use it for the first time. Kylie, Melissa and Daddy all took a walk to the park, and Kylie got to ride in her new wagon. While we were taking our walk, and when we were about half way to the park, Kylie called out to me. So I stopped walking and turned to her and said “Yes Little Bit?” to which she happily replied “Daddy, this is the best surprise ever!” This, of course, brought a very large smile to my face, as she often does. I have to say I am very, very pleased with the reaction to her new wagon and I am very happy I was able to get it and make my little girl happy. I am looking forward to many wagon rides and park visits this spring and summer!

Best Mom Ever

I just got the following text message from Tiffany: “Kylie just told me I was the best Mom ever. Almost made me cry.”  Kylie is such a sweet little girl!

Down on the farm

Today Kylie had the opportunity to go to her friend James’ birthday party at Domino’s Petting Farm. This was the first time we had ever been to this particular petting farm, and though it was a little chilly, Kylie and I both had a very fun time. The party was very nice, and we got to pet some animals and go on a hay ride. After petting the animals and going on the hay ride everyone had pizza for lunch and then broke open a pinata! A few pictures from the party can be found here. Kylie and I both had a very nice time, and perhaps we will go back there again sometime.

A Wagon Received

Today I was able to acquire, thanks to the Ann Arbor eCycle list, a Step 2 wagon. I was hoping to get a wagon like this so I would be able to bring Kylie to the park now that the weather will be getting nicer. We have a pretty nice park a little under a mile away, and Kylie really enjoys going there, but she doesn’t like to walk that far with me for some reason.

step 2 wagon

So about a week ago I began searching for a wagon that I could use to pull her to the park. It is my hope that this will server three purposes: 1) It will get Daddy a little exercise by walking to the park and pulling Kylie, 2) It will allow us to go to the park without using gas in Daddy’s truck, and 3) It will help build nice memories for both Daddy and Kylie. The wagon is a sightly older version of this one, but very similar in appearance to the image to the right. The main difference is that the one I have does not have the drink holders like the one in the picture, otherwise it is pretty much identical. It does have a little bit of weight to it, and the large wheels are sure to help it go over uneven terrain.

I am really looking forward to Kylie’s reaction when she sees this surprise, and I am hoping that she enjoys riding in it when the opportunity arises.

A Visit with the Easter Bunny

Today Kylie went to the mall so she could visit with the Easter Bunny. She knows he will be coming to the house soon, and knows she wont be able to see him when he does so she was really happy that she got this opportunity to go talk to him. She even sat in his lap and had her picture taken!
