Kylie’s Voice Mails

A long time ago I mentioned that I had found a way to get voicemails off of my phone and save them. Ever since that time it had been my intention to find a way to edit those files and remove the unnecessary information (some of the automated systems comments and options) from the files in hopes of posting them so I would have a central place to listen to them. In addition to the memories each of these recordings provide for me, it is also a nice audio record of Kylie’s growth and development. I can hear her voice change over the course of the voice mails, and I can hear her vocabulary grow and improve as well.

Recently I found the software that I need to edit these files, and after editing them all, today I was able to upload them to the server and create a page for them. The page can be found off to the right in the navigation pane under the collections page and is listed as Voice Mails, or you can go to it directly by clicking here. I am lucky enough to have recordings going all the wat back to 2006. Hopefully I will add many more messages to this collection as she grows and continues to leave me messages when I am unable to answer my phone.

Another Motorcycle Ride

Got to go on a short ride again today, wish it could have been longer. But at least I got to ride!

Play-Doh Fun Time

Today Kylie came over and she brought her new Play-doh creativity center with her. She has had actually had this for a little while now, but has not had the room at Mommy’s house to play with it, so she asked if she could bring it to my house. Of course I said yes and when she came over we opened it up for the first time. This thing is amazingly fun! When we opened it and took the top off the table we found a bunch of containers of play-doh, and a lot of various play-doh toys. Like molds, cutters, forks and knives, all sorts of fun things to play with play-doh with. In addition the table itself has a bunch of half molds built right into the top of it! We only opened one bag of the various play-doh toys and we still had fun playing together for well over an hour before it was time to put it away for lunch. Kylie and Daddy are both looking forward to playing with play-doh together again real soon!

Motorcycle Ride

I got to go on a nice little motorcycle ride today. First one in quite a while. It was real nice to be able to go for a ride again. Unfortunately I can already feel the seasons starting to change, so it will soon be time to put it away for the season. I think I might have been able to put more miles on it this summer than I did last summer, but just barely and thanks in large part to a few long rides with some friends from work. Hopefully I will be able to get a few more rides in before I have to store it again. I think this year I may end up storing it at the dealership, that way before I take it out for the season I can have them perform the needed maintenance for me.  I still need to look into the cost of that though.

Here was today’s trip:

No, I do it myself

Tiffany got a very nice report from Kylie’s teacher today when she picked her up from daycare. Apparently Kylie is her class leader. She reads to groups of children and sings them songs and leads them in group play activities. She does it all on her own and when a teacher starts to sing or read with her she holds up her hand and says “no, I do it myself.” We are so proud of her and hope she continues to lead as she moves up into her new class the begining of next month.

Wedding Rehersal

Today Kylie, Tiffany and I drove out to Mecosta, MI to get ready for Jackie and Russel’s wedding tomorrow. Kylie is the flower girl so we needed to go to todays rehersal. They are having the wedding at Russel’s Uncle’s cabin, a nice little place out in the country sitting on a lake. We didn’t have any trouble finding our hotel in Mount Pleasant and were able to meet up with the groom and some of the wedding party at the hotel. We then all drove out to the cabin and had the rehersal and lunch. I personally thought the rehersal was a little rushed, but the preist had another engagment to attend and the ceromy looks like it is going to be short and simple. Everyone loved Kylie and she had fun running around with David, the little boy who is going to be the ring baerer. A number of people commented to us on how polite Kylie is, and what an extensive vocabulary she has. We are so proud of her! After the rehersal we all hung out and talked, ate and drank, and around 8pm we headed back to the hotel so Kylie could get some sleep. She didn’t have a nap today and we want to make sure she has plenty of sleep for tomorrow, no one wants to have a cranky flower girl.

New Pictures

I finally got the time to prepare all the pictures and get them up on the site. I have finished out Kylie’s Year 3 gallery and started her Year 4 gallery. In addition I added the pictures I took on my work trip back to Philadelphia. I also made a slight change to the gallery so now all the top level albums show on one page.

Mommy’s Phone Number

This morning Kylie came up to Mommy and said “Mommy guess what I know” and then proceeded to recite Mommy’s cell phone number. Needless to say Mommy was very impressed and they had to call Daddy so I could hear it too. After Kylie told me Mommy’s phone number and I told her how proud I was of her; I then asked her who taught it to her, to which Mommy replied “Didn’t you?” Which I of course did not, and when I asked Kylie again who taught it to her she said Aunt Sissy. However we asked Aunt Sissy and she denies teaching it to her, as does Mimi. So at this point we do not know who taught Kylie Mommy’s phone number. We are happy that she knows it though, and have decided that seeing as she knows Mommy’s we should teach her Daddy’s as well.

Portrait Day

Today we went to Sears Portrait Studio to have Kylie’s third year birthday pictures and the family portrait taken. In addition to this being a yearly tradition it is also one of two times that we go to the studio each year to have pictures of Kylie taken, the other time being Christmas. This was the first time that I was not happy with the way the sitting went. It started off bad when the photographer attempted to introduce himself to Kylie by basically running up to her and jumping down into her face. What adult charges at a strange three year old child? That was the beginning of the end for this photo shoot. The photographer had no artistic opinion or pose ideas and Tiffany and I found our selves trying to suggest poses that were done in the past. In addition he seemed to have no idea of what color backdrops to use in conjunction with the outfits that Kylie was wearing. On top of this he even spoke negatively of his own company saying that other locations, in particular the Allen Park store, was “a dump that” he “would never work at.” We were so displeased with this particular photographer’s work, ethics, and ability that for the first ime we had to bring it up with his supervisor. The supervisor look at the pictures already taken and took the time to re-shoot the sitting and get us some good shots and poses, in addition he was able to get on Kylie’s good side and get her to smile. We are hoping the Christmas sitting goes better as we are planning on giving Sears another chance and not letting this one bad experience turn us to another studio.

“Come on fireworks, you can do it!”

Tonight was Trenton’s fireworks, and considering the reaction Kylie had to fireworks the last time she saw some, I decided that I would make the trip down to see them with her. Unfortunately she did not get a nap today and she fell asleep in my truck on the way to see them. But she woke up to go watch them, but her reaction was not the same as when she saw Wyandotte’s. I blame this only a little on he lack of sleep, as she was very excited to go see them, and spoke about them all day, asking more than once “is it time to go see the fireworks now?” The fireworks themselves just weren’t very impressive, in fact they may have been the worse Fourth of July fireworks display I have personally ever seen. Granted we did not stay for the finale, but that was a direct result of them not being all that good to begin with. Kylie did still seem to enjoy them, however, and showed it with more than a few “Oohs” and “Ahhs.” The cutest thing though, was in the beginning when other boats on the river were shooting off fireworks before the city started shooting theirs. Kylie would see one go off and then there would be a lull before the next boat or that same boat shot off another, and Kylie would say “come on fireworks, you can do it!” It was super cute, and more than a few people commented on how cute she was. So even though the fireworks themselves did not live up to my hopes, the night was still a very fun time.
