Strep Throat, Sweet!

We took Kylie to her regular pediatrician today because last night she began to complain that her throat was hurting, and when Mommy locked in her throat it did appear that her tonsils were larger than before. Additionally Kylie now has a 100 degree temperature and absolutely no appetite. When the doctors office performed the rapid strep test it finally came back positive. It sounds odd to say it, but Mommy and I were very happy that Kylie has strep because this means we can finally get some type of medication that may help her feel better and reduce the size of her tonsils. Tiffany and I both laughed when we realized that it was probably strange for parents to be this happy that their child has strep throat.

Surgery is Scheduled

Tiffany called the ENT Doctor’s office today to schedule Kylie’s tonsillectomy, as of now we are scheduled to have the surgery performed some time on Friday June 24,2011. We will not find out the exact time until sometime the day before when the hospital calls us to give us the time. We have had Kylie placed on the waiting list in case something comes up sooner though, because her tonsils are still very large and at this point we feel it would be best to have them out as soon as possible. That being said though, if we can make it to the June 24 date, then Kylie wont have to miss any school due to the surgery. We have also decided not to tell Kylie until closer to her surgery date for a couple of reasons: 1) We don’t want her to spend the time between now and then worrying about the surgery, especially as she has already expressed some hesitance and worry about the idea of going to the hospital and having them out. 2) We don’t want to spend the time in between now and then having her ask repeatedly if this was the week of her surgery and how long until the day of her surgery, because when she is anxious about an event she does tend to ask about it a lot. At this point we (Mommy and Daddy) feel a little better just knowing that it is scheduled and that Kylie will soon finally have some relief.

E.R. Room Visit

We took Kylie to ER tonight because her tonsils are very, very large, large to the point that they are almost touching her uvula, and we are concerned about them swelling so much that they close her throat. In true Kylie fashion, she has not been complaining of any type of pain or discomfort. however, Mommy has noticed that she has a very decreased appetite and has no desire to eat anything “rough or hard.” When we got to the ER they performed all the normal checks and Kylie weighed in at 24kg (54.9lbs) and now stands at 117cm (3.8 feet) tall with a blood pressure of 104/62. The ER doctor (whose name I missed) said she was not worried about her tonsils swelling because “they can swell closed, but she can still breath through her nose.” Additionally the rapid strep test came back negative so what ever is making her tonsils swell is most likely viral and there is nothing that they can give her to help reduce the swelling and make eating better for her. This information, and seeing just how large her tonsils are (JUST LOOK AT THOSE THINGS!!!) has made Daddy decide it is time to take out the tonsils and not wait for the next bout of strep!

Back in Michigan

The flight home today was nice and uneventful, just the way I like my flights. As soon as we landed and I was able to disembark I made a beeline straight to my truck so I could go see Kylie. Having not been able to spend the entire weekend last week with her due to my flight leaving on Sunday, and not seeing her this weekend due to being in Texas, I was really looking forward to going to see her for a little while tonight. I gave her a few small things I picked up for her while I was in Texas and then we went and had a nice dinner at Red Robin.
