Bluetooth Headset

On Feb. 23 I won an auction on eBay for a Bluetooth headset, more precisely for a Jabra BT350. This headset was brand new and in retail packaging, so I figured what the heck and gave the auction a shot. I ended up winning with a bid of $38 USD plus shipping of $13.95 USD, so my total cost was $51.95 USD, not bad considering if I had purchased it at the Verizon store it retails for $79.99 USD, and even with my 25% discount I still would have had to pay just about $60 USD pre tax, so I still saved some money.

Well I got the headset yesterday and after charging it and pairing it with my phone I have had no problems using it. In fact it works real nice. I have been able to leave my phone on its charger and just wear the headset and answer calls anywhere in my apartment. The BT350 vibrates and gives a small beep when a call is coming in and I just press the answer button. I have not had the opportunity to use it while driving yet, but considering that my old wired headset worked nicely while driving; I think it is safe to assume that this new one will be even better.

Now I just need to decide if I want to buy the belt clip for my phone, seeing as this one did not come with one, or if I am fine just leaving it in my pocket. The belt clip retails for $20 USD but I am sure that I can get one cheaper on eBay. I will have to wait and see what finances and time bring.

It was broke, now it is not

Well I am not really sure what happened but some time on Sunday night / Monday morning the site went down. All pages requiring PHP were not being rendered. I got that fixed relatively quickly by adding -D PHP4 to the /etc/conf.d/apache2 APACHE2_OPTS= flag. So that was nice. But then the blog itself would not work, more precisely there was no connection with the database. It took me a while to figure this issue out but I eventually figured out that it was a log discrepancy issue. Once I removed some logs from /var/lib/mysql the database was able to be initialized and a connection made. Now MySQL is staying up and all is well. I have to admit I have gotten a lot better at figure this stuff out and getting things back up and running. 🙂

8 months already

Today is Kylie’s 8 month old mark. She has grown considerably since her arrival, as is to be expected. It is fun to watch her learn new things and make new discoveries. Everyone says becoming a parent changes you, and you know what, everyone is right. Although I must admit it is a good thing. Sure I could do without being woken up by her suddenly crying in the middle of the night for seemingly no reason, but I can’t do without seeing her smile at me when she first wakes in the morning, or holding her through out the day, and there has never been a sound more beautiful to my ears than her laughter. Yes, I am proud to be this little girls Father.

This being said, I am happy to say that for the second month in a row I have her pictures up on time. They were posted earlier this morning and can be found in the gallery. This month’s pictures include images of her first standing in her crib, and her first experience with carrots and Cheerios. In addition we also have pictures of Uncle Chris, Aunt Tracey and Cousin Delaney visiting for the first time since Cousin Delaney’s arrival. And of course there are other random pictures in there as well. Now we just have to wait and see what happiness next month brings.

Tracing an Email

Having worked at a help desk dealing primarily with Email support, I found this article over at Onimoto.com very interesting. I remember having to trace Emails on a very regular basis at that job, and this would have come in handy then when training new employees.

Me – as a punk band

Black Flag
This is where you belong in the annals of punk history!
Oh man, if people knew what was good for them, they better stay out of your way. No one knows the fury and rage that boils in your veins. Only you do and the only way to let it out is to shout at the top your lungs and barrel over anything or anyone who tells you otherwise! Someday, your wisdom will be second to none, you’ve lived hard and have the battle scars – inside and out, you just need to mellow out…fuck that!

My test tracked 4 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:

You scored higher than 55% on wild apathy
You scored higher than 60% on pissed off
You scored higher than 16% on comically evil
You scored higher than 47% on socially aware

Make your own ring tones

Now that I have a new phone that can handle MP3 ring tones, I found this article over at Wired to be of great interest. However, seeing as I do not yet have a laptop or computer that is Bluetooth enabled, I will have to settle for paying roughly 25 cents for my ring tones by using Mobile17’s service.

New Phone

Well I finally got my new phone. In accordance with my Verizon plan, I am eligible to get a new phone every 2 years at a reduced rate. So I have traded in (well technically I still have it) my trusty LG VX-4600 for a nice shiny new Motorola E815. This is actually a big upgrade as far as features go. The E815 has a camera which also dose video recording, has an expansion memory slot, does V cast, has MP3 ring tone capabilities, and is Bluetooth enabled! It also has a few other things my old LG didn’t have, like a speakerphone and a larger display. While I loved my old LG, this one just has more of the geek qualities that I require. 🙂 I am still playing with it and trying to get everything transferred over, but so far I like it. Now I just need to get my wireless headset and a laptop with built in Bluetooth and I am all set.

“Maid” Cafes

So I wonder if something like this would ever catch on over here. I know the cultures are vastly different, but the gaming subculture is roughly the same. If only I knew how to go about acquiring venture capital, I think this might take off in cities with a large young gaming community. Perhaps somewhere in California…?

Property Value

I plan on owning a home someday, and as such I tend sometimes look at that one channel on the TV that shows property listings, just to get an idea of how much places in my area sell for. Well tonight I found Zillow, a site that shows you property values. You simply type in some information (none personal) and it will get you the information. This site is ideal for both people looking to sell their home and for people looking to buy a home. With it you can easily see what the value is of other houses in the area and find out if you’re asking (or offering) to much or to little for your (the) neighborhood. In the event that you do not own your home, you can even check and see how much the place you are renting is worth. Very neat indeed.

Super Bowl XL Commercials

For many the Super Bowl is nothing more than an opportunity to see all the new comercials that air, and let’s face it, who wants to sit through the game just to see them? Well thanks to Google Video you don’t have to. Just head on over to the Super Bowl XL Commercials page to watch all the commercials from the big game. They even have some of the GoDaddy commercials that were not allowed to air.
