Michigan renaissance Festival

Today I finally made it to the Michigan Renaissance Festival out in lovely Holly Michigan for the first time ever. I have to admit it was rather enjoyable, not that I didn’t think it would be.

I so many things I wanted to purchase, mainly revolving around weapons, but also some other items as well. Included in that wish list of items was an awesome hand crafted, fully functional 57 pound war hammer for a mere $850 from Custom Swords. As far as I am concerned they had not only the best quality weapons (Axes, Swords, War Hammers, Maces) at the festival, but the best I have seen anywhere in a very long time! I was talking to the lovely lady behind the counter and found out that not only are they hand made, the material is of excellent quality. For instance, the war hammer was 5150 Spring Steel, and the aluminum wrapping on one of the Staves was airplane grade. Once there site comes back up (I was informed it was down being redesigned) I fully intend to look around and try not to spend all my money.

In addition to the weapons the costumes were great. There were so many people there in costumes that you almost felt out of place without one. I think it would be pretty cool to go back next year in character, I am sure the experience is completely different. Of course this is also probably the best place to get said costume, as they sold just about all the items you would need. I guess the hard part would be deciding on the character.

Seeing the joust was rather cool as well. I have some pictures of that that I hope come out well. I will have to see when I get the film developed. After I get that developed I will be sure to add pictures to the gallery, I believe these will get filed under the “event” album. Assuming I ever get around to scanning all the pictures I still have to scan that is.

All in all it was a good day and one that I think I would like very much to repeat next year.
