Full Time

About a week ago I was offered a full time position at my current job, as I had been working partime I naturally excepted. I was originally under the impression that I would be starting full time on 3/14/05, so imagine my surprise when my boss called me today to remind me that I am working tonight. We had a little discussion and it turns out that I am starting full time tonight and someone had forgot to inform me of this last week while my boss was on vacation. So this is pretty sweet, I get to go full time a full 2 weeks earlyer than I was anticipating. Lucky me! Now I get and extra 2 weeks of full time pay!

Petals Around the Rose

Petals Around the Rose is a dice game that I just recently discovered. The purpose is to teach “thinking outside the box.” It took me a good amount of time to figure out “the rule” of the game, but now that I know I am not telling. Give it a try and see if you can figure it out. Supposedly the smarter you are the longer it takes you to figure it out. All it really takes is an abstract way of thinking, so that theory is not actually true. A few things to keep in mind that you are allowed to be told:

The name of the game is “Petals Around the Rose” and the name is very important.
    The answer is always even.
There is always one correct answer.

Should the page I have linked to go down, a simple google search will reveal others as well.

Jon Stewart’s Daily Show on Bloggers 02/16/05

I don’t normally watch the Daily Show, so when I came across this clip from the 2/16/05 show, I thought it was rather humurous and worth sharing.

Hockey…or the lack there of

Last Saturday, the 12th I went and watched a Red Wings Alumni game. Now this was by no means as exciting as an actualy Red Wings game, but with the then lack (now complete cancellation) of the 2004 -05 season, it had to do. They played the Toronto Maple Leafs Alumni at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit Mi. I finally got around to getting the pictures off my camera. All in all it was a decent game, even though I did leave a little early to avoid traffic and such. However, it did not even come close to filling the void in my life where this years hockey season should have been. There better be a season next year!

Lion + Tiger = Liger

Whats better than a Lion and a Tiger, a Liger! “Its pretty much my favorite animal,” and some zookeepers in Miami have managed to breed one. According to the article this thing is huge and they think its gonna get bigger. According to the article Hercules shows traits of both his parents;

Hercules sports his father’s mane and his mother’s stripes. He roars like a lion and swims like a tiger (lions loathe the water).
“He’s already bigger than his parents and he’s still growing,” Antle said. “I expect he’ll be 12-feet long and weigh 1,000 pounds when he’s fully grown.”

Although visiting the actual site for Parrot Jungle Island makes no mention that I could find of Hercules, I think it would be really cool if this story were true. Of course a quick google search for Liger does produce a number of hits, including a story from a Siberian Zoo.

Site upgrade

Performed a software upgrade today on the site. The only real noticeable difference is that the links on the side are now broken out by category. So links to friends’ sites actually appear under a “Friends” heading and other links appear under other headings as well. In additiotn to this I have decided to remove some of the other themes that I wasn’t as found of. I would like to thank Steve for the help he supplied in this upgrade. As usuall he was able to help me figure out where my error was when issues surfaced. There are some other things that I would like to modify and tamper with, if I ever do I will make note of the changes.

Political Persuasion

Over on Jim’s site he had up a link to a site that could tell you what your stance on politics are just by answering a few questions. I thought it sounded pretty neat and decided to give it a try. Evidently this is the “political me” :

You Are a New School Democrat

You like partying and politics – and are likely to be young and affluent. You’re less religious, traditional, and uptight than most Democrats. Smoking pot, homosexuality, and gambling are all okay in your book. You prefer that the government help people take care of themselves.

I am not going to comment on whether this is me or not, but I do think it is pretty neat and worth playing around with. You can drastically change you results by altering even one answer, so it could be fun to mess with.

Great Start

So today was my actual first day of work at the new job, it started out pretty shitty but kinda funny. So I woke up this morning and got ready for work and did all the normal stuff, and then left. Well it was snowing out and it took me 35 minutes to travel approxamitly 9 miles…on 94. Now there was no reason for the people in front of me to be doing 15mph in a 70mph lane, but anyway…. So I make it to work and am pulling into a parking spot doing like 1 mph and my truck will just not turn, instead it slides…..into another car. *sigh* So anyway I finally get my truck into a proper parking spot and go into work to find out its my boss’s car. Damn, what a way to start out my first day. He was cool about it though and understood. Nothing I could really have done about it, turns out it was fresh powder over a beautiful layer of black ice on a sloped parking lot at 8am before the plow came through. At least the rest of my day went well.

Diabetes

Diabetes is an illness that is very close to my heart, as such I was very happy when I came across this article which reports on the successfull transplant of insulin-producing cells from a mother to her diabetic daughter.

A team at Japan’s Kyoto University Hospital removed islet cells from the healthy woman, and transplanted them into her 27-year-old daughter.

The breakthrough could be a much more effective way to treat type 1 diabetes.

Though this is not a cure for type 1 diabetes, which is “also known as insulin-dependent or immune-mediated diabetes,” it is a huge step forward. Hopefully this will also aid development for a cure or better treatment of type 2 diabetes as well.

Superbowl Commercials

I know a lot of people out their watch the big game just for the commercials, hell I know I do. However I was also playing poker that night so I know I missed some of the ads, so I was thrilled when I found this site that has all the commercials for my viewing pleasure.
