After some down time for a systems upgrade and migration we are now back up and running smoothly. The new systems’ processor is roughly four times faster than the old and the RAM has been quadrupled, so I am hoping this will alleviate some of the loading time and such. Over the next few days I am going to attempt to finish uploading pictures of Kylie’s first year, hopefully that will go smoothly as well.

Well I *Finally* finished processing all of Kylie’s 12 month pictures, and as such have started to put them up in the gallery. That’s the good news. The bad news is this: I won’t be finishing the upload. As of right now I have month 12 weeks 1 and 2 up and that will most likely be as far as I get for now. This is because it took about 10 hours for those 25 or so pictures to upload. The web server is just getting old, the hardware and such is really out dated and the fact that it only has 60 MB of Ram is not helping. However, there is some more good news. A few days ago I posted that we just got new laptops; this means that I am slowly decommissioning the other systems I have been using. Seeing as I technically no longer have a need for a desktop system my old 1.6 GHz machine with 256MB Ram is going to become the new web server, as such things should move a little more quickly around here. The only problem is that I am not going to be able to get to that right away, so for the time being we are going to be without pictures. Sorry, but everyone is just going to have to hang in and I will get everything fixed up as soon as I can (meaning as soon as I have some free time).

I have added a new theme to the theme list, Fauna. This theme is actually running a sub-theme called Dark Frost and is the new default theme. I like the layout and color scheme this theme uses, and the header image that I have decided to use. I am still working on figuring out how to modify a few things, but nothing major.

I am pretty sure that I have finished going back through all the archives and changing the categories of each post to reflect my cross categorizing scheme. Along the way a few new categories have gotten added and in the future I am going to attempt to add new categories as I see fit, as opposed to just dropping everything into the general category. As it stands now I am not sure if I am completely happy with the number of posts in the general category, but I was not sure as to what other categories to make, so it will stay this way for now.

Another thing I have been working on is a better way to display the archive list, as it was starting to get rather long and would only continue to do so over time. I have found a way to remedy this issue on all of the themes except for the Dark night theme, which I will continue to tinker with until I can get things hashed out.

I have decided to add more categories for the posts; I feel that this will further help me see the things I write about. I have also decided that I am going to allow multiple categories per post, i.e. a post about Kylie being tagged both Kylie and Family. This is something that I have been avoiding but I think it makes sense. As such I am going to start to go back through the archives (at least for the general category) and re-categorize posts. I am also hoping that this will prevent the general category from being the catch-all that it has become.
