We pay how much?

Would you pay $10(USD) a gallon for gas? The answer to that is usually a resounding “No!”, but in truth we all know it is need based. If you had absolutely no other way to get some where, I am sure even I would end up paying the price. But then again, gas is a need.

But what about something that is normally free? Would you pay that much money for an item that you can easily acquire for free? If you are a normal, rational, level headed person, the smart money says you answered “No!” Well, odds are you’re a liar. How do I figure that you ask? Well let me answer your question with a question: Do you buy bottled water? Odds are you do, damn near everyone does these days; “Americans drank 26 billion liters of bottled water in 2004, or roughly one eight-ounce glass per person every day” (and for the record, no I DO NOT, read on and see why). Well maybe you should take a minute to read this article over at Yahoo! News.

According to the article:

Consumers spend a collective $100 billion every year on bottled water in the belief–often mistaken, as it happens–that this is better for us than what flows from our taps, according to environmental think tank the Earth Policy Institute (EPI).

Worldwide, bottled water consumption surged to 154 billion liters (41 billion gallons) in 2004, up 57 percent from 98 billion liters in 1999, EPI said in a written analysis citing industry data.

At up to $2.50 per liter ($10 per gallon), bottled water costs more than gasoline in the United States.

”Bottled water is not guaranteed to be any healthier than tap water. In fact, roughly 40 percent of bottled water begins as tap water; often the only difference is added minerals that have no marked health benefit,” EPI said.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency sets more stringent quality standards for tap water than does the Food and Drug Administration for the bottled stuff, it added.

So what does all this mean? It means stop paying for water! What ever the reason is, you are literally wasting money! Should you really feel compelled to throw your money away however, I will be more than glad to put a link to my Pay Pal account where you are more than welcome to deposit it. I will put it to far better uses!

Oh…by the way ever purchase Evian? Ever spell it backwards? Well your fancy French water is simply making fun of you, because backwards, Evian spells…Naive.
